ALBERT TOBACHNICK

On October 31, 2001, after a long illness, Albert Tobachnick passed away. He was 84 Years old. He was the proud Grandfather of Beth and her husband Simcha, Rachel, Michael and his wife Heather and Brian and his Fiancée Tara, Great Grandfather of Michael and Alexander.

He was born in Manhattan on September 27, 1917 and grew up in the Bronx with his mother Rebecca, father Hyman, brothers Max, Charlie, Ben and sister Faye. Al was active in Boys Club. He also loved to sing and entertain, acting in many plays and musicals.

When World War II broke out, he was called to serve in the army.

On November 25, 1943, Al married Lillian Welfeld. They had 2 children, Barry and Joyce.

In the late 40's, He and his brother-in-law Hal became proud owners of a Brooklyn luncheonette.

In May 1954, Al set out on his own to operate a store in Brooklyn where he sold candy, toys, stationary, ice cream and magazines. The neighborhood children thought he was Santa Claus because he supplied them with all the toys for Christmas and Chanukah. His nieces and nephews loved to visit him because they always received candy, comic books and toys.

From 1967 until retirement, Al worked as a Buyer for J.W. Mays in Brooklyn.

Al joins his loving wife Lilly, who passed away on September 3, 1980.
